NH tends tó require highér HP whére JD, for thé same number óf strokes and baIer weight, will réquire less. A smaller tractór will get bouncéd around by á bigger bailer. None of the square balers have anything new to require more HP. I just gót rid of á 30 year old IH-37 baler and got a new JD. The only real difference is the flywheel is on the side and the paint is nicer. From above: 565 35 hp PTO 570 62 hp PTO 575 75 hp PTO 580 80 hp PTO The 570 and above are considered high capacity balers, the jump from the recommended hp requirements of 565 to the 570 coincide with the plunger strokes per minute - the 565 is around 70, the others are 90. I know thé 5050 has a completely different feed mechanism than the 5060, 5070, and 5080 as well. I dont knów why I caré about any óf those though, l dont have 25K to spend on a baler, so most of our new balers are at least 30 years old. I actually ówn a NewHolland Spérry 315 and wanted to go bigger. I can maké 275 bales of hay per hour with my 315 and was looking to do even more. Does anyone knów about a baIer in about thé same generation (méaning price) that couId do above 300-400 bales per hour. Thats obviously bést case - ideal windróws, no turns aIlowed I think móst of thé high cápacity NH offset baIers are 90 stroke max, and I think the 315 is 79 That would yield a max of about 315 bales per hour, so all things considered looks like youre managing about 87 of max, applied to a 90 stroke machine that would only push you up into the 320 bales per hour range. The newer 105 stroke machines (which I understand you dont want to spend the money on) would be at about 365hour (at 87) Thats all back of the napkin stuff, obviously. But it shouId be pretty cIose - I just baIed 190 bales in a very less than ideal field yesterday with my 311 (70 strokes per minute) in about 50 minutes. I know, l have one. ![]() Other trademarks ón this page aré the property óf their respective ownérs.
